ATL

What a crazy past few days. Monday afternoon I flew out from Asheville to Tampa, then was supposed to connect to Atlanta. But the Lord had a diferent plan in mind. He decided to make it thunderstorm for hours in Atlanta. And I was delayed for an hour. No biggie, just one hour. But soon enough we were delayed another hour, and another, it kept raining. In the meantime of the delays I made friends with a Puerto Rican woman who was also flying out, but at seperate times. Would would watch each others bags when we needed to use the bathroom, or get food. She bought a sandwich and gave me half. this woman was so sweet and comforting to me when I was freaking out. I knew I needed to get there that night, and hoped I would get to the shuttle in time. Not till 8:00 was Atlanta allowing planes to start and fly in. Thankfully a friend was able to pick me up from the airport. Once getting to the hotel I found my 3 roommates (not knowing who they are) still awake. They spent their summer in Greece! How cool is that??! maybe next year I'll do another trip, hopefully somewhere overseas...Don't panic Mom! haha

The next day (first day of debreifing) waking up and getting breakfast down in the lobby. We had to walk to the MTW offices from the hotel. The day was filled with many meetings, and the steps to dealing with culture shock. I didn't feel as if I have much of a culture shock compared to others, but in a way I did. My debrief was with 2 woman in the office and went well. It was nice to just talk about it and being asked questions about my experience. I hope that by the time I get home I will be able to share the highlights of my trip. And to figure out what those experiences were.

Tomorrow is the last day for debriefing, and MTW is giving us a brunch in the afternoon where our parents or whom ever are getting us (those not flying out)for brunch. My mom and Kaylee hope to be here about mid afternoon and get back on the road. I'm excited for the drive to Orlando and our time there to relax and sleep! Getting ready for another meeting/ talk at debriefing. Bye!

Greetings Earthlinks

Oh my how my time here has gone by! I have been too busy to sit down at the computer and blog about my days. I do keep a written journal though and may post blogs from previous days to catch you up. Things here are well. Packing is a tedioius thing to do when tired and drained. Emily said goodbye today. Her Dad came in town to drive home with her. It wasn't sad since we live only a few hours away from another. I hope to see her again. I changed cabins and am all settled in for now. Since I leave on Monday I'll be living out of the suitcase for the next day. There's no use of unpacking then repacking. Friday was the last day of the program and we traveled to the mall. It was interesting...they were frantically speed walking to "Justice" (which is similar to Limited Too) and purchased their Justin Bieber t-shirts. Then hurried down to Journeys to buy eye blasting colored, swagger shoes. The term swagger shoes is my own way of describing them to you, there is not relivence to them being or having "swagger," just to clarify...They had the Taminator and I running all over the place. Thankfully it was a refreshing workout after our lunch at the Olive Garden. :) Soup and salad with endless everything! Light but always filling!

This summer I felt like I was going through the motions and not fully grasping what I was doing here. About halfway I needed to do a heart check and really figure out the reasons for my being in Cherokee. I tried to control the program on my own, without God's guidance or comfort. It became so difficult and more of a job then an actual ministry. I didn't feel surrounded and encouraged by God's people, my sisters and brothers. I lost it.

I needed Him back and could desprately see that. It's still a process of seeing how I can't do things without Him. Having a peace of things that aren't of my own and knowing that it is out of my hands. For I can change nothing, only the Lord can. He holds us in His right hand, and calls us His child! I get warm fuzzys when I hear of His deep enduring love! Excited to get home soon. Debriefing in ATL for a few days then off to Orlando with Mummzy and Kaylee bird for HP World :) One thing I'm looking forward to about home: my oven!!

Day of Prayer

Yay! Its Saturday, my day off! Waking up week after week to a silent campsite is peaceful. No screaming children, or teams shouting in Korean :), just the beauty of the Smokies. I have the day to myself, while my roommate gives her parents a tour of the town. I was able to Skype with my life group girls and my dear cousin Kristen. And at the moment I'm finishing up some laundry.

I only have two weeks left here on the edge of the mountains. My days have been filled with entertaining middle schoolers and preparing for lessons to come. Lately I've been thinking of whats to come. Where I'll be in a few years. I could honestly see myself living on a mountain out West somewhere, hiking and biking and just enjoying the creation God made. I'm enjoying my independence for the mot part. Surprisingly I haven't been to homesick. Although I do miss home and my family it feels okay. I know that things will work out weather I like them or not. But for now I will just sit back and enjoy this day of prayer.

Bear Claw

Since my last blog I saw a film that completed my childhood, jumped in another river, and some more laundry. My days have been filled to the brim with planning and going places, and many meetings and introductions. I've been lacking sleep again and do not plan on getting sick anytime soon. This week the younger girls are doing morning VBS with a Korean team here, then afternoon with me. The lesson planning is more than I expected but its rewarding. I just have to keep leaning on Him for strength and endurance. Monday we went swimming after the lesson and today I did some tutoring. Surprisingly I enjoyed it. My Fourth of July wasn't anything exciting. We went to church, had lunch, then had an introduction meeting with the new teams. In the afternoon Emily and I went to the Pow Wow :) Got a ton of pictures for art this year. We were to tired to watch the fireworks, so we did laundry instead. The Taminator leaves tomorrow morning for the West. when she gets back I'll have one more week. I can't believe how fast this summer has gone by.

I'm looking forward to a fun time with Mum and Kaylee Bird drving home from ATL. This year will be crazy busy, and stressful. But hopefully with some added fun...Pray for strenght, when I grow weary. That I can find comfort in Him and not be discouraged by the people and things of this world.

Too Much Ke$ha and Gaga?!

Its been too long since I've logged into Blogger.com and wrote about my Indian adventures. The days have been filled with lots of driving, spending time with the girls with the windows rolled down listening to loud Ke$ha and GaGa music playing. I have NOT been able to stop humming these stupid #1 singles. Oh and I forgot to mention, Mr.Justin Bieber! (the girl in my group is in love with Bieber, almost equivalent to my liking of the Jonas Brothers a long time ago!) If you do not know who these artists are feel free to use Google.com. Yesterday was the first day of the mentornship program, and it went great for the most part! The girls answered the group questions and played well during the ice breakers. I was not really prepared for a lesson though, and we sat next to the river where people were swimming. Thankfully Ak was there to help. I know am planning a lesson the night before-which is a task and stressful most times. But I like the time I get to spend in the word. :) Today was better. I felt that the girls in my group were more themselves, and opened up. On girl in my group lost her dad too, she shared that with me. Praise the Lord she opened up! It was awesome!! We were on the camp today and did the lesson first thing, which was nice. Around noon we got together and had lunch. HOT DOGS!!! (my favorite for those who do not know.) An apple, chips and bananas. Yumm! During lunch we played the "What If" game, asking what if questions ( What if you had a million dollars...how would you spend it?) After lunch we decided to do a craft. Using the floss I brought(colored strings) I taught the how to make bracelets. The high school girls enjoyed it, but the younger girls got tired of it quickly, and frustrated when it didn't turn out how they wanted. Oh quick story about this morning....slept in, missed breakfast but ate a protein bar that Tammy sent me. :) Before my eating though, Tammy called Emily. She talked to each of us, when the phone reached me she said something like this..."Rebecca I want you to focus on telling the girls WHO GOD IS and go into the ten commandments. They need to have a better understanding of who He is. If they have the wrong perception of who God is than everything you teach them can be taken wrong. They need to know how to apply this to their everyday life." Wow, this was an awakening to me, maybe because I had just gone to sleep at 2am planning a lesson on Lies Young Women Believe (<<< the Book) I was going to talk about how as young girls there age they don't need to worry about a boyfriend. That God can satisfy their every need! But God used Tammy to let me know that wasn't what he wanted them to hear about today. So from that call about 8 o'clock in the morning till 9:30 I wrote up a new lesson. But the benefits were good. I trust that the Lord will was done. After the craft we took the girls out for ice cream, and to just hang out. I had two scoops, Chocolate moose tracks, and Red Velvet Cake!!! Sooo good! In the creamery there is a giant chalk board that you can write all over. Hopefully I can get the pictures up of our fun day soon. No lesson tomorrow, off to the beach (aka the river) for a morning swim, then leaving for Asheville with Emily, Ak, and Tammy for Ak's last lunch. She leaves this Saturday. Had a fun night too, we saw Toy Story 3! Oh my word, I cried at the end, so sad, but I'm glad it went that way. I'll miss Andy. This movie was the completion to my childhood.

Pray Requests: For me to have quiet time, and value my relationship with Him first. I need to be able to learn and grow to teach others, and to not be easily overwhelmed about the study and lesson plans. Oh and rest. For Emily, to be lead by the Holy Spirit, to be obedient. For Ak, for when she's back home to carry out her faith and show her growth to the people around her. And for Tammy, that she would be rested, and strengthen. The teams this week are all youth pretty much, and its frustrating to her at times. Oh kids....that's it for now. Write again soon.

Our Day Off

Well its Saturday...and our day off! :) We woke up around 7 to eat some breakfast and say good-bye to the Peachtree City team from Georgia, then went back to sleep until 11:30. We all had a busy week, so we needed the rest. Leaving the camp around 12:15 we started our journey to Franklin, NC. A small town 40 minutes from Cherokee. We stopped on the side of the highway and took pictures with the "Smokeys" behind us. There were a few funny ones when you zoomed in because there was a freak bee on us. Then arriving in Franklin we ate an outside sub shop by a creek. Very nice; then went to the book store in search for a needed book, requested from the Taminator. aka, Tammy :) On the way to Franklin wasn't sure where we were going. All I heard was, "Franklin" and "bookstore" so I assumed we were driving to Franklin, TN (not sure of my U.S. geography) Hahah, anyway it was nice to get out of the cabin and see the new side of the mountains. Doing laundry and watching Twilight at the moment, oh Twilight....

Happy Birthday Rebecca

Wow, I'm officially 18 years old. Waking up in the mountains, and celebrating on the Cherokee Indian Reservation, how many people can say that? I feel so special and loved by all the comments and Happy Birthdays that were said today. Thank you! Funny story, when I woke up I thought of looking in the mirror like Molly Ringwald does in 16 Candles. Looking at myself I saw nothing different or out of the ordinary, just me Rebecca. Today was interesting with the middle school girls group. They were extra excited and crazy. Wanting to go on the playground, then jumping rope, we did just about everything except climb a mountain. At dinner I was presented with a mini cake (turned out to be rice krispy cake) with vanilla icing! So yummy!! Tonight was family night, where the parents of the children from the week come for dinner and get to see what we've been learning this week. Now I'm just relaxing in the cabin, getting ready to hang out. Thank for all the sweet birthday wishes, I miss you all dearly!

Visiting Hours

The eve of my 18th birthday, what a good one indeed. Woke up late for the most important meal of the day, and it was cold, resulted to oatmeal(not cold) Then went back to the cabin and wrote some letters to beloved friends and family. Around 9:30am I went and joined the middle school girls who were hanging out in the pavilion. The day involved a message about counterfeit Gods and being still and listening to what the Lord is trying to tell you. It was awesome. Lunch was good, I sat next to Emily and chatted with some of the high school students. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed with the process of choosing the girls for this program. I didn't expect that I would have to write up an outline for future interns, and the future program. I know that God already knows who is going to be placed in this program, and that I have nothing to worry about. But I feel like if I don't know who is "right" to choose, then I'll fail and disappoint someone, like Emily, or Tammy.
In the afternoon I had the great Margaret and Bob visit me. It was so amazing to be surrounded by a familiar face, and encouraged in my walk. They took me to Paul's, the local restaurant. I ate a Bacon Swiss Burger....and man that was good! But before we ended up at Paul's, we toured the town, and not on purpose. I knew of another place near by, so we headed that way. Once we pulled into the lot (only two other cars) and walked inside, a disturbing funky aroma hit us. There was no one at the tables, and the wait staff was crowded sitting at a table chatting up on the latest town gossip. We order our drinks, Sierra Mist, hot tea (no alcohol, dry) and a water for me. Then we were instructed to "help ourselves" then with a drawn look behind, we spotted the BUFFET!!! Margaret and Bob are not "fans" of The Buffet. So we delegate, and swiftly decide to leave for Paul's. instead. Best time ever! So glad we went to Paul's instead. Always remember, no matter what town you are in, "Granny's" should never be a buffet. Can I get an Amen!? ( Birthday blog tomorrow :) My first blog as an 18 year old)

Breakfast On My Own

Well the team here this week has 60 people. Then add another 10 or so just of staff members. This all equals a whole bunch of mouths to feed! Oh and this week is VBS week here at camp. So add about 70 children ages 5-18. It was a crazy Monday but it went smoothly. I was assigned to be with the middle school girls (since during the mentornship program I will be leading the middle school girls) Today the kids starting showing up around 9:30am and coming into the main area where they got a name tag. I honestly was already feeling overwhelmed of not knowing what to expect and not knowing these girls. Thankfully none of the girls ran away or threatened anyone, there were no cat fights or slander spoken. Yes, these are events from years past. And the middle school girls are the most drama focused. These girls are deeply hurting, and have so much to tell. I'm finding out that they actually have knowledge and wisdom in certain things (ex: knowing John 3:16) but do not know how to fully apply His word to their lives. Please just pray for these girls, that they would be open and understanding to hear what we have to say, and encouraging them. Also pray for the leaders, that they would be given the words to lead them to the cross.
Last night the interns and I :) went to a local restaurant called Paul's, which was Indian owned. It was pretty good, I enjoyed getting off the campsite and eating in a different environment. Emily's birthday dinner included...fried mushrooms :) she at the pterodactyl wings. Which were massive! and actually full sized chicken wings. AK had fried shrimp and fries :) I ordered the trout, which came with a side of fries as well. I feel like all I've ate is always fried. Its crazy!! We almost went crazy and ordered the frog legs for Emily's birthday, but we passed when it came to ordering. The week is going to be busy but hopefully fun. I'm doing well so far :) My birthday is this Thursday!! *Please see attached the video of Rebecca swinging very ungracfully from the rope into a freezing cold river* :)

Please Excuse Me

I know, I missed DAY...I'm sorry. writing a blog can be such a task when your out in the woods. Waiting for your ancient dino of a computer to turn on, then letting the internet load. Its a whole process. But here I AM. :) Saturday was our day off. We finally were able to sleep in and catch up on rest. I woke up around 9:45 and started my blog. Emily and AK slept till noon. Crazy teenagers, hahah! Our plan was to go swimming in the river that day, so we got ready and headed down. Stopping and getting some lunch first. When we reached the river there were many people there. Hanging out, swimming, one family brought their grill down. We sat in a shady spot and ate. Emily and AK finished before me and went ahead in the water, they looked very touristy collecting pebbles. While sitting there the wind started howling and leaves began to blow past me. Next thing I knew huge black ants, and daddy long legged spiders ( with red bodies..if thats normal) started crawling all over the blanket we set out. I remained some what calm and stood my ground. It began to rain, so we headed to AK's H3(hummer 3) and waited out the sprinkle. A good 15 minutes later it stopped and we went back. With the handy tye dye water shoes on and ready for adventure we slide into the waters. IT WAS FREEZING!!! AK- being used to the mountain water goes in first. The water took some getting used to, but once your feet and legs get numb, you move in deeper. Thankfully no one slipped and it was really fun. Towards the end of the adventure we stumbled across a rope. It took me a fews minutes to take the leap and pull my legs up, but with AK and Emily telling me to do it, I did. Which I'm glad I did, because later I would have regreted not jumping off. Today(sunday) was pretty laid back. Went to Christ Fellowship and enjoyed it! The Taminator was there too! Its also Emilys birthday today! :) I'm getting tired easily though, and missing those fruits and veggies, I mean the real stuff, and fresh too. I know I sound picky but I like my food. On our own for dinner tonight, maybe I'll get lucky. I'm coming up on being here my second week and I'm getting exhausted. Phyically and mentally, I have this "I just want to sit around attitude" But I do what they want me to do anyways. Working for the Lord isn't an easy job.

Oconaluftee Indian Village

Friday morning I was sent to the Big Cove day care again. Emily came along too. We sang the kids favorite song, " If your Happy and You Know It" Then the leader of the group lead a bible story. It was the story of Noah and the Ark. Mina forgot her script and instead of only two birds coming back in the end, all three came back. But she did a great job, and the kids didn't notice. After that we all loaded up in our automobiles and drove to the Oconaluftee Village. A look at how the Cherokee really lived before, during and after settlers came to the New World. (the picture above is what they lived in with New World settlers influence.) It was so cool to see all the crafts and ways they lived. Finger weaving, carving, poettery, warriors weapons and dances and basket weaving. It was a great day and I'm feeling much better! Thank you for all your prayers!

Sweat, Sap, and Dirty Hands

I've been having a difficult time getting up in the morning. This whole week has been busy, and sleepless, but the weekend is just around the river bend. I went to Snowbird for the morning and the afternoon. We hung out with the seniors, and painted river rocks. After having no inspiration for a good half hour (just staring at the rock) I painted my hand and Voila! The work outside involved digging post holes to put a railing on the trail for the elders. It was hot and tiring but the result was accomplishing. Spaghetti for dinner tonight, and man it was good! My throat has been been hurting today, and my lack of sleep is catching up to me. Please pray that I will be healed and get better for the weekend. Camp week is next week, this is when about 100 kids from the Reservation come to the camp and hang out. They seperate by age onto teams. This is when Emily and I will meet the girls in our group. The process of choosing them is still in the midst, but coming along.Pray that their hearts will be open to doing this program and that Emily and I can use the gifts we have been given. Tammy, AK, and Emily are going to the Cinema tonight to see Robin Hood. I'm skipping so I can get rest. :) Hopefully. And mom, sorry I haven't had a chance to talk to you over the phone lately, I will call you tonight before I go to bed. Love you!

Hello World

I'm really enjoying my time in Cherokee. Being on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains is amazing! This morning on the drive over to Big Cove Day Care I saw the clouds at the peak of the mountains. It was so gorgeous to experience. :) The kids ate Big Cove were adorable! We sang a few songs I did not know, and I was stuck in the front to teach the kids. Definitely was mouthing watermelon for a few verses. But towards the end of the morning we all got the hang of it. We also played Duck-Duck-Goose and Red Rover and raced bicycles. It was awesome to see their smiling faces raining down, and soon become contagious. Later in the day my coach from MTW Offices came to visit the ministry. It was...interesting to meet him. It was awkward for some parts of the night. We found out that he's really young, only 23 years old, and just been working for MTW for four months now. I missed going out to lunch with the interns and others, I already ate with the Open Door team. Funny side story...so we finish at the day care and go to the island. (local park where two creeks fork and there's a large piece of land in the center.) So we pull in and park. I grab some of the food and we find a seat. The bridge was marked off, but we crossed anyways. I felt like a rebel. hahaha! Oh and also I was with a team of Koreans, which was awesome, because Koreans are just cool. The father of a family, lets call him Bobby was sent to get drinks. We assumed he went up the road to the general store. But about 15 minutes later, when were all about finishing out sandwiches, here comes Bobby with a bucket of KFC chicken!! Oh dear, I'll be honest, I was already full and didn't need that fried chicken, but man it was good! Bobby was getting pats on the back and many thank you's. This is how we should always be. Providing for those who we love and care for. Even those who we do not know. his encouraged me to become more selfless in what I do.
BIG NEWS!! I was hit on 3 times at camp. By the same guy, not to creepy, pretty decent, I have no idea who he is or what his heart is like. He is here with one of the teams. Once on site while leaving the day care, he blew me a kiss. Once at supper, he made me a plate, and wanted me to take it saying, "Guys serve the girls" how sweet:) Unfortunately I declined, the interns and kitchen staff get in line last. He was bummed. Last nights dinner was really good too! I FINALLY ATE VEGGIES!! Southwestern salad with chicken :) and peach cobbler. And lastly I was bringing the trash out with AK and he yelled hi to me across the camp. Hahah oh boy. Well the new teams will be here in the afternoon on Saturday. Tonight we went to a drama here in town called, "Unto the Hills" I was on the verge of tears. It was explaining the Cherokees struggles dealing with the Pale Faces and not wanting to leave their homeland. It was sad to see a bit of what happened. My favorite part was seeing a blonde head in dancing with all the Cherokees. I'm really beginning to have a heart for the people here. I'm looking forward for the mentornship starting next week. Pray that I will not feel alone in this, and that Emily and I can support one another in our walks and this summer. Also that we could get to bed earlier, every night since I've been here I've been up till midnight. I'm slowly wearing down. Love you all! Sleep tight!

Jesus Loves The Little Children

For all you church goers, or none church goers, you know the song, "Jesus loves the Children" This was only part of my day. In the morning I went with the team from AL and spent sometime at a daycare. We sang songs, and handed out snacks. There were a few "lap throws" left over, which we used as a craft. Half of the kids made lap throws while the others finished their pillow cases they designed. I helped a little girl named Summer, she wanted to give the blanket she made to her baby nephew. But her brother was making his blanket for the same purpose. She began to get frazzeled and wanted to have a new design. Soon she spotted a pretty purpke design and wanted to have it. This was the only purple on left and three other girls wanted it. Ohhhhh noo!! Summer checked with all the adults to see if she could take Mr. Purple lap throw. But sadly one of the three who wanted it had already claimed it. Summer had trouble understanding why the girl just couldn't give it up so Summer could have it instead. In the end Summer stayed with her first blanket, and decided to find someone else in her family to give it too. This blog worthy event made me think two things. 1) Wow, I learned to have patience with her. 2) We don't always get what we want. Before this happened we played a game called, "The Trash Can" Literally there was a trash can, and it had frisbees and footballs, baseballs, everything! One team was out field and the other was at home (Like baseball bases) The people at home base grabbed a ball and threw it! The opposite team ran to get the fallen obkects and get them into the can. Once we held an object you froze. Mean while a "runner"runs around the bases getting points. I had no idea what I was doing, and my shoes were wet the whole day from running in wet grass from the morning dew. It was fun though, it was neat to see the kids be so friendly and have some of the day care staff play with us.
In the afternoon I was dropped off at Birdtown Rec (no birds involed inn this project) by my dear Alabamain friends. Everyone was eating lunch and just came back from swimming. These people sure do swim alot up here. After lunch the kids traveled into the gym and we played "Steal the BACON!!" You were given a number (1-18, and there are two teams) and once your number was called, you and the person from the other team ran to the middle and tried to steal the bacon before getting tagged. I was number 9, how I DREADED being called to run. hahah but this is just the Lords way of getting me out there. I discovered I love using the hot glue gun. Lets just say crafts was fun today :) Now I'm back in my Quad, roomates are napping. Dinner is soon, hoping it is Spaghetti, or something yummy! :)

Monday, June 14, 2010

"Write your stupid blog!" in the words of dear Emily (Roomate at Cherokee) She meant in a loving way. We're all exhausted. The atmosphere in the "Quad" is awake, but needing sleep. Emily is reading, AK is writing in her cool over sized journal, while I blog away. Today was pretty filled up. Woke up around 7 am had breakfast, and met the team I would be with. I went to Tsali Manor (Senior Activity Center) we played Bingo and handed out prizes. Some of the woman had 4 cards at a time. I had the bum card, and didn't even get close to winning. We later came back to camp for lunch, which was cold cuts and chips. I ate with a team from Alabama, they had two other Rebeccas on the team. I was referred to as Rebecca the intern. We traveled to Tsali Care, a Senior home where they live. We wheeled many ladies and gents to a big room lit up from a massive sky light. We sang hymns and visited with the residents. The activity of the day was making blankets with them. They (the Alabamians) called them lap throws, just for future reference. I sat with a woman named Diana, we made two blankets; you just tie the outer ends of the blanket together. She spoke of her daughter, and her two children. It was nice to just listen and be someone she could talk too. After we finished at Tsali care the team decided to go swimming in the creek. Keep in mind, I am a Florida girl, and we do not have creeks and "swimming holes," so you could say I was a girlish about getting in. I felt like a dork with my hot pink water shoes on. The water was freezing and I never went in. Hey, I have 6 weeks here! Don't panic, I'll make it into a creek sometime while I'm here. Dinner was good, fry bread with Chili, traditional Cherokee meal here. I stomach was bothering me today, because the lack of fruits and veggies. * IF YOU SEND ME A CARE PACKAGE, SEND FRUITS AND VEGGIES!!! STAT!* Kidding, really that would not work at all. After dinner- I think every night we have worship and a speaker comes in. Tonight Rick, a pastor on the Res. He spoke of not following this world, and being aware that he is COMING!! His purpose wasn't to frighten us, but to speak of the truth. How we should always read up of what was just taught to see and know his word. Prayer request: That I could have a heart like his. That he would use me for his glory and kingdom, also that I wouldn't be afraid of discouragement. Also for AK, that her heart would be in this ministry, not just going through the motions. And for Emily to not be afraid, an not worrying about being worrying. Will write again tomorrow. Sweet dreams, thank you for all the comments and support :)

I Have Arrived

Whooooo! Flying from Tampa to Asheville was a snap! Although there was some turbulence towards the end when we flew through clouds. This airport only has 4 gates, and is really easy to find baggage claim :) Emily and AK picked me up from the airport. Then we traveled to Target because Emily needed skirts for church. We ate a Chili's for lunch. The drive from Asheville to Cherokee Camp went fast, I dozed off for a little. The cabin is sweet! I have a top bunk, and finished unpacking everything from my luggage. For dinner on Sundays we go out with Tammy for debriefing; going over the week before, and the week coming up. We ate at Happy Garden Restaurant, Chinese food. By the way there are only 2 chinese restaurants on the Reservation. Now were back in the cabin, just hanging out. Hope to write again soon. P.S. Opened a new peanut butter jar tonight :)

T-minus 10 hours

So I've never actually written a blog before and have no experience in "blogging." Those who know what to do, please enlighten me. The purpose of this blog is to keep you updated on what is going on throughout my summer adventure in Cherokee, NC. I will be leading a Middle School Girls bible study while I'm there. Please pray that I will lean on Him. That I will be BOLD when he calls me to do so. Also pray for the two other interns, that they will be the shining stars in the universe. I leave for the airport around early tomorrow :) Well feel free to comment or whatever it is people do on blogs.
